False Block with GRCS

Setting rigging from the ground can be a great aid to a close quarters drop. Sometimes there is virtually no room to fell the tree over. In the short clip we are moving the trunk section of a declined birch from down on a steep lake slope next to a boat house up onto the deck to be pieced out into our cart and hauled to the chipper. Our main mechanical advantage here is the GRCS (goodie rigging control system) which is able to lift 1 ton easily. We set all the rigging for this from the ground with throw lines. Just goes to show that rigging isn’t just for the climber and can be deployed by a skilled groundman.
